Multiple fires and unusual weather patterns caused soot and other particulate matter from fires in Oregon and the Central Valley of California to blow towards San Francisco bay.  In a highly unusual weather pattern, the wind blew from east to west – from inland towards the ocean – instead of the usual west to east pattern (from the ocean over the land).  These photos were taken on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
